Don't speed in Virginia!
How about a $3,550 speeding ticket PLUS a 5 year surcharge of $700 a year till your points drop off?
Well, welcome to Virginia's new traffic fine system!! :ack2: :ack2: Check this link out for full details: http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/18/1818.asp This is for real. I've talked with relatives who live in Va, and they tell me it's now law!! So be VERY careful when passing thru Virginia!:NoNo: Glenn |
I read about the new laws last week. This is how they plan on funding road repairs and new roads there. From what I have read there is a good possibility that if someone decides to take the state to court the new penalties will be found to be unconstitutional. Never know. The extra surcharges apply only to Virginia residents with current Virginia licenses, not out of staters. I saw one surcharge for a burnt out bulb will be $350.00. Also most of the infractions are considered felonies and will be permanantly on your record. The judge has no leeway as far as the surcharges and convictions go, if found guilty you must pay 1/3 at the close of the trial, then you can make two more payments.

I see alot of for sale property in Virginia's future. Cheap land, and with the money you save you can hire a driver to chauffeur you around so you don't get the points.

Think i will steer clear of that state!

I remember a while back we went to a state park in Virginia, and you could barely see the scenery for all the signs warning of dire consequences for straying off of the official path through the park. Plus they have had a "make work" project on route 95 for as long as I can remember. For the size of that fine, all it will do is to give speeders incentive to run from the law if they think they have half a chance of escaping. |
Maybe some smart guy will have a do not drive state directory that can be tapped on the gps systems.

I hope other states dont follow with such insane fines.

HOLY ****E:eek:

OUT OF TOUCH
All of this stuff just shows how out of touch our government has become to the needs of the citizens and what they want! Just look what it took to get them to wake up to the insanity of the immigration bill, and it still only barely got the majority vote! How could Virginia's elected officals think they are doing what the majority of their citizens want? :nonod:  :shrug01: Glenn

Actually, I think this is pretty representative of what normally happens when our elected officials remain in office too long. They forget why they are there. They begin to believe it is to enforce what THEY want on their subjects, rather than being representatives of the desires of their constituents.

Several years ago the Florida Highway Patrol had a C4 that had been seized from a car dealer after an investigation revealed odometer tampering. The trooper that headed up the investigation was assigned this Vette and patrolled I-75 with it after the dealer painted it the yellow/black FHP pattern. All FHP had to do was install the radios and lightbar.
