List of Florida Corvette Clubs?

Well I think I need to get off my butt and send out invitations to the various Florida based Corvette clubs to see if I can get some of them interested in participating here. I did a quick google scan for the pertinent keywords, but I am sure my current list will have holes and defunct contact emails.

Can you guys help me out with any clubs you know about that are not on this list or else the contact info is wrong?

Here's the list I have so far:

Also if any of you are members of local clubs, how about helping us out here and making some requests from within to get the upper management of your club to think a bit about this. I don't expect to be able to get many of them interested, simply because I think some may feel I am treading on their turf. Doesn't matter how I present this, I just think some people may feel that way about it.

Thanks.

Rich, there are a couple that you don't have on your list. Here is the site for the Florida region of the National Council of Corvette Clubs

http://www.ncccsouth.com/FL_Reg/FL_C..._florida_.html

Z06 Rocket 04-27-2006 02:52 PM

You got mine in that list. We have a show coming up soon (September) at the St Pete Pier. I'll pass on more when I get a specific date.

Dr. Guaranexx 04-27-2006 07:12 PM

I'll be happy to pass the word on to some fellow Corvettes of Naples members. I don't really think that this site would be treading on their turf since many of these clubs do not have online message forums.

Rich Z 04-28-2006 03:23 AM

OK, I just sent out the invite email to all the clubs I have on the list above. Here's the email I sent in case anyone is interested:

Quote:

Hello!

I hope you don't take this as an intrusion, but my options are limited in the manner in which I can contact you about this opportunity I wish to speak to you about.

Recently I have gotten the idea of setting up a message board forum exclusively for and about Florida Corvette owners and enthusiasts. Being a Florida resident myself, I found that I was looking for more locally oriented topics on the various message boards I have been frequenting, and the thought occurred to me that perhaps other people in my home state might be in the same boat. Things like where the best tuners are nearby. What shops can I trust to work on my car? What about local places to buy accessories? Where are the local clubs meeting and having their get togethers? When the next hurricane comes calling what are you all doing with your pride and joy? Or just some way to correspond with people with similar interests and in relatively close proximity.

Yes, I have been to most of the Florida based Corvette club websites, and although many are done well, I noticed something lacking in nearly all of them. Online interactivity. Meaning, there really was no way for anyone (even potential members) to intereact online with ANY of the members of the local clubs. None. When I got my Corvette, I would have sorely loved to have some place where I could exchange messages with other local enthusiasts. Some place where they all would have the same local concerns and interest that I have. But this capability just did not seem to exist.

Not one to try to nag someone else into doing what I thought was a darn good idea, I just went and decided to do it myself.

So just under 2 months ago, I set up http://www.CorvetteFlorida.com and began preparing it with some finishing touches to try to make it attractive and interesting to anyone interested in joining. Right now we only have 50 members, but in reality that is not all that bad for a site that is spreading solely by word of mouth and the enthusiasm of the current members to try to make this work.

So where, hopefully, do you come in? One of my original design goals was to offer any and all Florida based Corvette clubs the opportunity to have their very own forum on the site in which to have an online meeting place for their membership. This is offered for free. No strings attached and no hidden charges. And certainly no obligations on your part whatsoever about what you HAVE to do in return. You can come and go as you please. Anyone in the club can be assigned as the moderator of their own forum, and it is completely up to the moderator to control what is posted within that forum. If it is found prudent to do so, I can expand the forum with relevant subforums if that would be more helpful in segregating the posting in a more rational manner. But this is strictly optional and completely up to the club itself.

One side benefit of this will be a natural cross-pollination between all of the clubs and allow ALL of the members access to each of the other clubs' online membership. There are many local clubs that are close enough that some members may find it advantageous to become paid members of more then one of them. So this does present an opportunity for you to *sell* your club to people who may not otherwise have an inside view of the benefits of the expertise provided by your local members. Heck, from what I have seen, get up a good enough reason, and most Corvette owners would gladly drive across the state in order to attend ANY cruise or hangout. From another perspective, what about when some sort of pending legislation hits the books and you may be aware of it but perhaps no one else is? How are you going to reach EVERYONE that it will affect and perhaps get them motivated enough to contact their representatives? Do you already have a grapevine set up to do this or perhaps would a centralized meeting place be helpful in a situation like this? How QUICKLY can you get the word out right now?

So here is your chance to be able to DIRECTLY interface with all online Florida Corvette owners at one location. And it probably can't get much easier for you to be able to do so.

So now you are probably asking yourself "What is in it for THIS guy?" Probably not a whole lot, actually. I lease my own servers, and already run several other message boards for other interests I have. A couple of them are doing VERY well for me, so I do have the luxury of being able to do something like this without much cash outlay and very little in the way of real work. I manage sites like this all of the time already. Yes, maybe in the future some Corvette related businesses may be attracted to the site and wish to pay for advertising, and that would be fine with me, but I'm not holding my breath over it and nor am I going to lose any sleep if it doesn't happen. I happen to be VERY enthusiastic about the Z06 I bought recently, and having a place to just interact with a bunch of other people, all pretty much nearby, and just as excited about their cars as I am about mine, just excites me no end. Personally, I just think this could turn out to be one heck of a lot of fun.

So what do you think? Interested? Take a look and let me know what you think, either pro or con. If you need changes made, let me know, as nothing there is set in concrete. If you have a good suggestion that is technically feasible, then by all means I will make it happen. Or if you think it is just a bad idea completely, heck, lay it on me. My skin is pretty tough and I can take the criticism.

But if you are definitely interested in YOUR club participating, just let me know. Take a look at the format in the Florida Corvette Clubs section of the site to see what I will need from you: (1) Club title you want to have as the forum heading, and (2) A short description of the general topic matter you wish to see within your own forum. If you wish to be assigned the moderator of that forum, simply let me know. If you want subforums right off the bat, then that can be done as well with no trouble at all.

Anyway, I know this was rather long winded, and I do apologize for taking up so much of your time. I tend to run off a bit when I am excited about something, and I am REALLY excited about this.

So please, check it out and strongly consider joining us. We are already off to a fairly good start for a forum site so newly formed, and I think it is going to begin growing by leaps and bounds as the word spreads. I know all the other current members would sincerely welcome your participation along with us.

Thank you!
Now, let's cross our fingers and hope some of the clubs would like to join us.

Z06 Rocket 04-28-2006 10:17 AM

I thought it was a good letter.

Pseudomind 04-28-2006 11:41 AM

I believe this should read,

"Jacksonville Corvette Club"

As I see this and I am not really sure if it is for the Jacksonvillle Corvette Club or not as it currently reads. JMO

Jacksonville Club,,rdavis72@bellsouth.net
Jacksonville Club,,thomps_r@bellsouth.net

Thanks

Well the reason it is like that is because Outlook Express apparently has a character number limit when putting names in the address book listing. I have two of them listed because in two separate websites I saw different email addresses listed for what looked like the same club.

One of the problems with the internet is that sometimes information can be stale as some webpages just become abandoned and the info woefully out of date. The webmasters lose interest or initiative to keep up with it, and the search engine spiders just keep indexing them all the same.

When I sent out the above letter to the recipient list at the top of this thread, I got 13 email address bouncebacks immediately, mostly from invalid email address errors.

There are a couple of new registrations here, but so far it is too early to tell if this request going out to the various clubs is going to fly or not.

Zach 04-28-2006 02:24 PM

Good letter Rich, hopefully things work out.

MADN3SS 04-28-2006 03:20 PM

Very good letter Rich. Hopefully it'll generate some interest.

Rich Z 05-01-2006 10:50 AM

Well, let's see. I count 64 email addresses that this letter went out to. I think 13 of them bounced back as being no longer valid. So far I have had one reply out of the 51 other emails that went out....... Do you think all the rest were too busy washing their cars to check their email over the weekend? :shrug01:

2Vettes 05-04-2006 08:25 PM

I like the email. How about sending one to my club at: info@swflcorvetteclub.com ? I'll bring the topic up at our next meeting also.

OK, I'll try to do that in the next day or so. I would be curious to hear what response you get at the meeting, if you don't mind.

2Vettes 05-05-2006 07:01 AM

No problem, Rich. We meet the second Tuesday each month so it's only next week.
We try to keep up with the activity of the other clubs in our area, Corvettes of Naples and Corvettes on the Gulf. Some of our folks are members of 2 or 3 of the clubs. We also stay active with the local corvetteforum "misfits" for lunchs and get togethers. That's one of the great things about living in Fl, it's corvette weather year round!

SusanVette 05-05-2006 08:02 PM

great letter, I see some of the Orlando clubs listed, but not all. I'll send them a link to the site. Great job, thanks for your efforts.

I tried to find as many as I could, but obviously the sources were incomplete and/or outdated. I have to admit, however, that I am disappointed at the responses (of lack thereof) that I have received so far concerning my offer.

2Vettes 05-05-2006 08:58 PM

Hey Susan, nice to see you here

Rich Z 05-07-2006 10:27 PM

Well, over a week has elapsed since I sent out that invitation letter posted earlier in this thread. All in all, I would have to say that it appears that the clubs I contacted for the most part are not interested in participating here. Out of all those email addresses I used that were not defunct, I got direct replies from only one (1) person representing that particular club.

Pretty disappointing...........

I brought up this site at our meeting tonight. Our pres said for you to drop him a line. You can reach him at the link I posted earlier. I don't know how much participation we'll get (based on previous internet based sites) but we won't know till we try, right?

I sent him the invitation the same day or the next after you posted the link. Does this mean he never got it?

Well, I don't know how to answer that...it didn't seem he had not heard of this site when I brought it up. :shrug01: I can send him the link and see what happens.

Anything is possible I guess. Email isn't the most reliable delivery system I have ever seen.....

Wow, I should re-read my posts and check for proper grammar before I hit the send button.......sorry

Rich Z 05-10-2006 10:08 PM

I think I have enabled editing for all registered members, so you should be able to correct such oversights. Let me know if that is not the case. I meant to do that, if it is not enabled.

Bob Procter 05-30-2006 04:26 AM

It's actually

Citrus County Corvettes
www.citruscorvettes.com

Rich Z 05-30-2006 12:06 PM

Well honestly, the results from my invitations was extremely underwhelming. Well I thought this was a good idea, but apparently they all disagreed.

Way it goes, I guess. I suppose the way to go about this is by going to the members direct rather then the club brass. So I need you all to help me spread the word about this site.

Electra 06-27-2006 10:20 AM

Here's another name you can add to your list of Florida Corvette clubs: CORVETTES ON THE GULF (Ft. Myers/Cape Coral). Our website address is: www.corvettesonthegulf.com where info may be obtained for officer contacts, meeting location, membership application, etc.

AWSUM_V8 07-12-2006 06:16 PM

Rich,
Miracle Strip Corvette Club
blk00vette@yahoo.com Darrell - president
www.miraclestripcorvetteclub.com

I'll bring it up at our next club meeting as well.

Rich Z 07-12-2006 07:08 PM

I guess my thoughts on this site being a central meeting place for the various Corvette clubs around the state wasn't as well received as I had hoped they would be. The invite is still open, however........

Thanks.

Mortaci 07-12-2006 11:56 PM

It takes time

Don't get discouraged. All great things take some time to get off the ground. Lets all start putting events and things to do here. After a while the word WILL get out. Mort, Citrus County Corvette Club

Bob Procter 07-13-2006 03:29 AM

Citrus County Corvette Club has a new e-mail address: citruscorvettes@tampabay.rr.com

Bob Procter 07-13-2006 03:38 AM

Jacksonville Corvette Club Meeting change for August

:welcome:

The next meeting will be on the 5th of August (Saturday) and not on August 3, 2006 or the first Thursday as normal. This is because the club is going to do a cruise to Ocala, Florida. See information below

The club voted to change the August meeting schedule to accommodate a trip to Ocala on Sat. August 5th as our Social meeting for the month.

Details are:

Plan to leave from the Target Parking lot on 220 no later than 8 a.m. - be there by 7:30.

Some may want to meet earlier for breakfast at the Orange Park Cracker Barrel - optional

Will get to Ocala and the National Part Depot around 10:00. Ron Davis has a scenic route mapped out for us. Bring radios - Channel 7.

After the tour of the cars we will find a place nearby for lunch.

Then - optional - will go to the Don Garlits Museum - Ron has negotiated a group rate - 10.00 (usually 12.00) or 8.00 for Seniors (usually 10.00)

Then a scenic peaceful ride home - back in Jax around 7.

YOU MUST SIGN UP - ( If you wish to go, just send me a PM) so, since we do not have a meeting between now and then if you HAVE NOT already signed up and ARE going - please let me know by return e-mail ASAP so I can tell Ron Davis.

The third Thursday of the month will be our Business meeting - August 17 - Whitey's Fish Camp.

Thanks

Tell us about the National Parts Depot. What is it? The tour is to see what? Could Citrus County Corvettes get a tour?

Pseudomind 07-23-2006 07:00 PM

I will see what I can find out and who to contact and post it. From what I understand they have a very nice collection of restored auto's of different makes, and this is what we will be touring.l

I called the 1-800 number below for,

NPD Florida
900 S.W. 38th Ave
Ocala, Fl 34474
1-352-861-8700
1-800-874-7595

The owners have an extensive private collection of around 125 collector automobiles, an example given to me was a 1946 Buick with only 400 miles on it.

To arrange a tour for your club call the 1-800 number and they will connect you with the corporate vice-president in charge, I believe they said his name was Rick and he will get it set up. You will need to know the number of members who will be attending.

If you need more information just call the 1-800 number above.:wavey:
