I'd block the front wheels, lift up the rear end and spin the rear tires, listening for any type of Dragging. if that didn't convince me... I'd start the car up, put'er in gear and have momma steppin' on the accelerator while i'm behind the car looking at the rear end with a flash light (if need be) looking for smoke etc.
