And I got a bit of a bird's eye view of what people actually DO at shows of this nature. Which appeared to be basically NOTHING.

Looks like three things may be a requirement:
  • Bring your own shade.
  • Bring your own chairs.
  • Bring your own drinks.

Any shady spot anywhere around had a group of people huddled there. As the sun moved and the shadows along with it, so did the people utilizing that available shade.

Unless you want to sit on the ground, bring a chair.

I don't know if it is SOP for such events to have refreshments available, but I didn't see much at this one. So having a cooler handy with drinks would have come in REAL handy.

As an aside, one aspect came forcibly to mind as the wife and I were walking around and saw a lady (and I use that term loosely) and her two kids walking around looking at the cars. The two kids were acting like wild indians, banging their hands on all the vehicles they ran by and touching everything within reach. This *woman* just acted oblivious to it all, so my wife walked over to her and told her rather bluntly that people here probably don't really want their freshly cleaned cars touched by anyone. The woman then made a feeble attempt to rein in the kids, but certainly probably no longer than after we were out of sight. Is that sort of thing normal?

Are cattle prods and electrified fences appropriate at shows? I think if some kid gets a notion to climb all over the Z at any shows we attend, he or she is going to get a real surprise at those two people who grab him or her by the scruff of the neck and escort him or her on down the line somewhere.
The three Vette shows I've been to this year all had refreshments one way or the other. I do bring my own chair. I don't sit in it much though. Of course I usually don't stay for the whole thing either.

As far as bringing your own "stuff", as my Father would have said: "Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it".....

The St. Armands Show in Sarasota this past spring was a LONG day, no question about it. And the only music was the Beach Boys blasting out of the back of my Coupe from a boombox.

When I first got my car I was hitting every car show I could find. I got burned out fast. I don't think I can count the reasons. There's a local guy here, Lance aka CollectorCarsTV, that does a lot of the local shows here. His judging is so biased I now only go to see the cars and people but won't register my car to be judged.

The show in Venice last month went well but was extremely hot. Events held down here in the summer are just plain tough, no way around it.

Bottom line is a show is what we make of it. I just do whatever it is I want to do then I leave. I have a nice digital camera with a KILLER zoom lens on it so I like taking pictures of good looking women. Oh, and cars too of course....

At "general" car shows there will sometimes be an "Anti-Vette" attitude. I've seen it a few times.

I like going to the "Mustang" shows just to drive through and piss off all the Mustang owners... Couple of my buddies and I refer to them as the "All Nag Car Shows"....

Best suggestion I have is take the car shows with a grain of salt.....expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.....

Registering for a show helps support the host club or the charity that they are donating to. It also get's you on their mailing list so that you know about other upcoming events with that club.

Rarely have I seen a show where you couldn't leave early if you wanted to.

The upcoming show in Melbourne hosted by Space Coast Vettes is on shaded streets, unique shoppes, great food and music all day.

But as others have said, it is best to go with a group. This way you have someone to chat with, cruise the show with, eat with, etc.. You will also probably make a few new friends, get some answers to some questions (not always right, but answers .

So go check it out, have fun!
