Angry Too damn hot!

I read somewhere that you could replace your back-up bulbs (1157's) with the new 50 watt halogen bulbs from JC Whitney as they are 2.5 times brighter. Who doesn't want brighter back-up lites? Within 3 days one had burned out. I attempted to get it out but the solder slug on the bottom of the bulb had fused itself to the connector! Called Whitney and they sent me two new ones - free! Before they arrived the other one went out. I just got back inside from trying to change out to the new ones. Forget about it!!! Making sure they worked, I layed them on the housing and turned on the ignition; before I got back to the rear of the car they had already started to burn a hole in the plastic housing! No wonder they burn out, they are too damn hot!!! Back to Whitney for my $14.95 back.

Default Just a thought

Might the LEDs or HIDs be a better way of obtaining a brighter light? I'm getting ready to order LEDs for my running/brake lights and another pair for my back up lights. I'm opting for clear for both the 1156 and 1157s so they'll display through the red lens nicely.

I seem to recall a few folks saying that a change of flasher might be required if I do that?

But I think you're right 50 watts of heat/light near plastic has gotta be bad news. JMO

What do expect from JCW?
You are not buying parts for a 55 Merc.
Buy from a C5 vendor.
