car stall, no idea. any ideas

i started my car this morning and quickly put it in reverse. i started going backwards and the car stalled. (automatic C5) the dash said wait 10 seconds to start. then it started fine and i havent seen it sense. any ideas? also a few days ago i was idiling forward w/ brakes on creeping forward and all of a sudden the car shuddered. felt like i got a little love tap from the person behind me but there was no one there. the car runs fine other then that.

It sounds a lot like the problem you'd encounter if the column lock kicked in. In addition to locking the wheel, I believe it's supposed to shut off fuel to the eng. Have you taken the car in for the column lock recall? It came out quite a while ago but a lot of folks haven't had it done.

Yeah, seems to me the FIRST recall for the column lock issue was just a PCM reprogram so that the fuel would shut off after a few seconds if you try to drive it with a column lock problem. Seemed to me that was just adding insult to injury.

Are you getting any errors displayed? Does the car have a column lock bypass (CLB) installed?

When I first got my C5Z, I would get an error message at startup saying to service the column lock. I just pressed reset and went on my way. I thought maybe it had a CLB installed, as the column did NOT lock when I turned off the ignition and extracted the key. Well come to find out, it WAS actually a glitch. When the battery was disconnected during the header install, the error message went away, BUT, now the column WOULD lock when the key was removed.

So quite possibly, maybe just disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds or so (turn on the headlights to COMPLETELY drain any circuitry maybe holding a charge) MIGHT help straighten out the problem..... :shrug01:

Good luck!

Unless they reflashed the PCM to remove that code for the fuel shutoff, a problem in the circuitry could STILL shut down the fuel even if the column lock is gone.

That "wait 10 seconds" message sounds suspicious to me.......
