Default Low oil pressure warning on dic

Started up my 01 C5 today and the dic showed low oil pressure. Like zero pressure. Any info on what the cause might be?

Unless you heard the tappets kicking up a fuss, my first guess would be the oil pressure sensor going bad.

Unhappy Sending unit?

Early C-5's were notorious for blowing sending units. My son had a 99 and replaced 3 of them! But normally they send out a high reading, like 120 or something like that. Another problem is that the damn thing is located UNDER the intake manifold! I've got a buddy that makes a "kit" that allows you to replace the unit and run it outside the intake under the "valve cover" so the next time you just snap off the cover and there ya go. It's a crap shoot whether or not you want to spend the $135 for the kit (which includes a new unit) or see if a new one will last. A new unit from Chevy is about $45, I think. A better unit is one from Buick but the Buick one has SAE threads and the Chey block is metric. You will need an adapter but once again, crap shoot? Good luck!!!

Thanks guys. I replaced the oil sending unit last year when my oil gauge pegged out . I'll be taking it to Chris Harwood this week to have it checked out. Hopefully it's the pressure sensor and i can drive it. If not I'll have it trailer it the 50 miles to get there. The day before I ran it at the drags and drove it home with no warnings. Oil pressure was normal. It sat all night and when I fired it up the next day the low oil pressure came on. The lifters are not making any noise and the motor sounds as strong as it did before. Got me worried when I started it up and saw the warning..

The Holy Crap feeling got alot worse when we pulled the pan and found metal at the pick up screen..Going to pull the motor next week and see what damage has been done..Might be time for a 383 stroker..

Yeah, I guess that could be considered as a cloud with a silver lining. I'd really like to put a 427 in my C5Z, but I just can't justify it when the original LS6 is running so strong.

Let us know how it goes....
