C3 Modern A/C

Previous questions about the A/C drier and how to accomplish different aspects of the upgrade are kinda being grouped here.

First I'll state that all parts originally installed some 38 years ago are being kept. carefully set aside. The new system uses an S6 10 cyl compressor already R143 equipped. With the compressor came the evaporator valve, the POA valve which includes electronic switching to allow the compressor to cycle instead of always running and I'm told front seal sweeping is now history. Included is the new drier and oil.

Instructions are nice and clear.

Parts removal (as per Murphy's law) was interesting. Compressor removal was no biggie (all the old 134 had leaked out again anyway). drier removal not bad but it was bone farkin dry. Now let the fun begin, removing the evaporator and then the POA valve was a joy all to itself. Took one day to finally get the evaporator removed and merle three days to get the POA valve out. Not bad, remember it takes hundreds of years for a redwood to grow.

POA valve and I had several discussions we eventually decided the patient would die if surgery as not preformed thus Dr. Dremel was rushed to the operating room. Previous Dr. Butane Torch and Dr. Blaster and the Dr. Big Wrench twins had gave it their best shot but to no avail.

With great sadness I announce the death of the POA valve.

All parts (with advise from Junkie) were repeatedly flushed and just damn there was some ugly poo in the system. Compressed air was blown through the system for more then 1/2 an hour to properly dry it all.

Tomorrow when I'm done with the slave work my boss makes me do I'll reinstall the new S6 (after oiling it and then the drier, again properly oiled and off to the A/C shop to be drawn down and charged.

Future up dates coming. Thanks Tracy, Junkie, NASAJack and Andy for advise.
