Vette Emblem

My wife bought me a Vette emblem to place on the hood pad of my '06 from Ecklers ($74). The instructions were very clear that if the emblem didn't stick, it would be my fault. I followed the instructions to the letter. Cleaned the area with alcohol, waited for it to dry for more than two hours, had another set of hands to help, placed the emblem in place, pressed on it with my hand in a sock (as instructed) and blew hot air over the emblem with a hair dryer. At the end, it looked good and felt good.
I placed the hood pad back on the car and went for a ride. This past Saturday morning, I was getting ready to drive from New Smyrna Beach to the Barrett Jackson car auction and decided to put the bra on the car.
When I opened the hood, guess what?? Half the emblem was hanging from the hood pad. :banghead: I was already late, and not too happy with the hanging emblem, and didn't want to spend time fixing or taking off the pad so I just janked it off.
I am not going to go through the hassle of arguing with the Ecklers people for money or another emblem but I am going to tell them what I think of this product.
Anyone knows if it is possible to paint the embossed emblem on the hood pad?
Know anyone who can do it?

I took the hoodliner off and had the underside of the hood painted since GM forgot and had JAKE airbrushed on. I hate stickers.

I talked with a guy at a show last year that had painted his on, It looked good. He said he used Testors model paint.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am going to take a look at the Testors model paint.

First Class

I had the same problem with my Corvette. Mine would not stick also.
I went the First Class direction and have had tons of compliments.(C5)
These are all hand made and in any color or lettering you want.

Look under Hood Insulators (C6).

These are new Hood liners with all new clips etc.
The materials used are better than OEM liners, heavier and blacker in color.
Not Cheap: about $500.00

:hehehe: JIM :hehehe:

OK. Here is where I am at. Looked at the Testors paint and it is not going to work because I know I will mess it up and it will look like crap.
On the other hand, I prefer not to spend $500 plus shipping from carmotorsports.
I went to a couple of places where they do t-shirt screen printing and they will not touch it worried that the paint will run because of the heat under the hood.
I want to paint the emblem and the head of an eagle.
I am goint to try an autobody shop and see if they know what type of paint to use and a business that can do it in the New Smyrna area.
This is turning into a quest.

Yeah, I bought one of those same emblems when I got a new hood insulator. They neglected to include ANY directions with it, so I just tried my best sticking it on. Of course it started peeling off within hours. I contacted the company, and they told me to just pick out something else I liked in their catalog (RPI Industries?) and they would send it to me free of charge. They didn't want the emblem back, so I pulled it off of the insulator, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it in the trash where it belonged.

We have the "sticker type" on Debs car. We really cleaned the insulator pad, let it dry overnight, cleaned the emblem area with denatured alcohol, then applied the emblem to the pad and used a heat gun to set the adheasive. It was a process but 18 months later it is still there.

A lot of people use paint pens/markers not testors model paint.
When it comes to having artwork done it's not cheap. I didn't want to put the money having my hoodliner painted, it's to fragile in my opinion.
Here's someone from Corvette Forum. No idea of her prices

Yeah, this is true. I got mine shredded when the harmonic balancer started coming loose and the belt became unglued. Not sure how often a belt lets loose, but it does bear thinking about....

Hoodliner

Got it done. Found someone local and had my hoodliner painted.
Very happy with the results. Included a couple of pictures.
