Interesting stuff.

Been wanting to ask you this... Is there any cost effective and accurate way for someone to do a reasonable 4 wheel alignment in their garage? Or is the equipment needed unrealistically expensive for that sort of thing?

you could use a level to get camber somewhat close. problem with setting toe is trying to get under the car to measure across to each tire front and rear of it to get measurements. here's a long thread on some autocross guys doing self alignments
