Default Oil Additives?

Does anyone use any oil additives in their engine? I think much of it is basically snake oil, but heck the theory sounds good, I guess. I've used a product called "Prolong" for years in all of my vehicles, but honestly have no idea whether it has helped or not. Plus I have been using Mobile 1 synthetic for at least as long in all my vehicles.

I remember many moons ago the big rage was STP oil treatment. But I recall a lot of people shying away from it when it was discovered that some serious sludge could wind up building up within the motor because of that stuff.

So has anyone done any real in-depth studying of these "super lubricants" and found something that was head and shoulders above the rest?

I've used Z-Max in my DD, and a long time ago, Slick 50 in a truck we had.

Slick 50 I would NEVER do to an engine again, but the Z-Max seemed like some groovy stuff.

I plan on trying Restore on one of my boats.

I use Lucas synthetic oil additive. I use it every time.
It was recommend by a few Vette mechanics.
I don't leave home without it.

This stuff really works. It cleans all the carbon out of your motor.

Auto-rx. Auto-rx is gooooood stuff. You can use it in your engine oil and tranny.

Look in the valve cover when you remove your oil cap and see that it looks as clean as the day you bought it........if you bought it new. If not, then it looks better then the day you bought it! It's also good for annoying LITTLE oil leaks.

Question Oil Additive

Do you really need an oil additive if you use Mobil One in a 95 Vette?

Well, I guess the question really is whether or not an oil additive makes the lubricant any slicker than it already is. I would think that a PERFECT lubricant would just about cease all wear on lubricated parts, which I would think is definitely a GOOD thing.

But I think the jury is still out as to whether it is just snake oil or not. I would think that someone could come up with some sort of "super lubricant"....
