Eckler's 29th Reunion Recap

But, overall dust and dirt are two different things. New dust and new dirt can easily be distinguished from built up dust and dirt. All the nooks and crannies can also tell a lot....

Funny you mentioned the nooks and crannies, as that is exactly what one of the judges said to me. Only I was lucky, in the fact that the comment was how clean they were as that is normally a spot that she finds deductions on. I had my car up on jack stands that week to get all of the wheel wells and suspension cleaned. I knew in street class they were only looking at what was visible through the wheel, but with the C5 thin spokes, there is a lot more visible then the wagon wheels. I guess it worked, although I was surprised that I came in third. I really did not expect to be in the top ten. My wife told me that I always under estimate my car. But like I told her there were a lot of great looking cars in my class. I just want to say to every one that was in the Street I class I did not see a bad looking car.

As for judged shows, I have pros and cons on them. If you have judges that have a good knowledge of the class they are judging then it should be fair. I learned a while back, that it is the fine points that separate one car from another.

Shows where all the participants pick cars I am not wild about, and I will go to those just for the fun of meeting new people that have the same interest in Corvettes. I find in these types of shows it goes either that if you know most of the people and get around talking to them you stand a good chance of win an award. Or if it is a large show, most people seem to judge only those cars that are in their immediate area.

Shows where it is people’s choice, that is a toss up. I believe it was said in an earlier post that in most cases the people cannot tell the difference in one generation to the next. They will under most circumstances select the prettiest, does not mean that is is cleanest or best restored/maintained.

It does not matter what form of judging that is used, there is going to be unhappy people. Some have a good reason to be unhappy, and then there are those that always think there car is the best of show and cannot understand why they did not receive an award.

I did not attend this years show, so I cannot comment on it. I did think that the area in Celebration would not be big enough. It is hard to find a place to park on a Friday or Saturday night. Let alone any of the special events, forget it.I did like the old town location the best, the most convienint for everyone and plenty of room. Yes we had some dust and rain, and tree leaves, but it was still the easiest place for most people to stay and find a place to eat and park.I had my 88 judged last year and recieved second place, was I happy with that? Not really it is a 2 time top flight car! I looked at the car that took first and he was not in the same ball park! Why did he beat me out? I don't know, but I had fun and I geuss that is what really matters! And in reality I think Ecklers does a great job putting on these show's, And I will continue to attend when I am able to! JMHO!
